Lost most of the time. At least this last trip was, probably a mistake, but a good one.
Got the bike all loaded up, had my pills, camera, phone, charger for the phone and my computer. Even had my notes like this one(rt9 to rt 10 to 5 and south west on 30 to rt59 in Texas). I don't know if its my age or did I forget to right down L for left an so on. The mind is tricky when you haven been riding like a young man. Anyway, I turned a 330 mile ride into 425 mile ride and was lost most of the day. But I did manage to bypass Little Rock. I ride 2 lanes most of the time. Had reservation at a motel in Tyler,Tx (it was on 69N and I was in south end of Tyler). Didn't sleep a wink at the motel, as I'd never seen a bed bug before this night and sprayed down with cutters an sprayed the bed to boot.
Next day I had to ask for directions (seems some old fellow forgot to bring the maps. I'm going to skin him alive, if I ever meet up with him.) Anyway, made it to the Guzzi Rally on Sunday and it was about over. Oh well, maybe I'll remember to take 16 out of Lindale, Tx next Oct.
Old Guzzi was having its day, not starting right and when it did, it ran all day long. (I'm not a mechanic, didn't bring a map) In Stroud,OK there's a real good motel just over the bridge on Rt 99 (Rt66 is in town). Good food here also. Trouble with the old girl and of course there had to be other travelers there riding bikes and the Highway patrol eats there every morning. Well, when the old girl back fired like a .50 cal, I thought, man I hope those cops don't come running.
But Thursday at a camp ground way off the beatin path, I had the windshield off, headlight off, pulling the ignition switch and I found the brown wire had fell off it's station(coil feed) and starter wire just about off (red). Guy next door told me to get a mans mc, I told him I'm riding one. That I bought this in Greensburg,Pa in 1992 and it's only been back to a mech shop 4 times in it's life. Old girls burning a little oil, but that's okay This ride has 126,000 plus miles and never had a head pulled, doesn't need water nor does it have a computer. It has rolled over 4 times without my leaving the saddle (1997) got T-boned.
Anyway. Got a new front tire in Tulsa,Okla ( someone ordered the wrong end- wasn't me this time , took 3 days to get a front tire) Instead of going straight home from there, I rode down to Talihina State Park where they were having the Okla Guzzi rally, instead of riding home from there, I rode back up to Salina, Okla, on Rt 82. Then to? That's a good question, can't find my route on little stickim . got map out)) 82 to 20 to 43 in Mo. got lost again as I couldn't remember the roads.
